Submission Guidelines:

I can only accept agented submissions to my Simon & Schuster email address.

Agents, my strong preference is email submissions with either a full manuscript or a detailed proposal with sample chapters attached. (Please, if you can possibly avoid it, no phone pitches or snail mail samples. I work remotely and prefer not to give out my personal contact information to receive these things.)

Please try to avoid submitting to me simultaneously with other editors at S&S Children’s. (However, I am happy to consider something an editor at another imprint has previously rejected.)

I do not mind at all if you email me outside of “regular” work hours, as long as we have a mutual understanding that I will respond when I am able and it will probably be within regular work hours. If I haven’t confirmed receipt of a submission or am taking a while to get back to you, I welcome nudges. I also welcome deadlines for a response.

What I’m Looking For:

I acquire and edit young adult, middle grade, and select picture book fiction and nonfiction. Currently, I am looking primarily for young adult fiction.

Across the board, I love voice-driven and character-driven books with tons of atmosphere and beautiful line-level writing, and am always looking to spotlight marginalized perspectives. I’m proudly Mexican American and would particularly love to see submissions by Latine creators! When in doubt, anything with a strong voice and a whip-smart sense of humor is a good bet.

I love children’s books for their potential to tackle life's big questions in a fun and hopeful way—and I also love them just for the FUN! So I’m not necessarily the best fit for a book that’s message-driven or straightforwardly educational, but I don’t mind when a book tackles serious themes, as long as there’s some light at the end of the tunnel.

What I’m NOT Looking For:

I am NOT the best fit for:

  • board books

  • chapter books

  • straightforward educational books

  • super message-driven books

  • STEM books

  • World War II books

  • YA romances that revolve entirely around the romance (I need other plot threads!)

  • paranormal romance

  • horror

  • the witchy aesthetic (I respect it, just not my thing!)

  • cringe comedy
